The Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, visited Headquarters Multinational Corps South-East (HQ MNC-SE) premises in Sibiu on Friday, 8 May.
The officials were provided with an overview of the Corps’ mission and its role in supporting NATO’s deterrence and defence posture. Discussions focused on strengthening the Alliance’s presence on the Eastern Flank and on the strategic importance of the Black Sea region. During the engagements, the NATO official also underlined Romania’s significant contribution to regional security and to the Alliance as a whole.
The itinerary then included the Joint National Training Centre in Cincu, where forces from the NATO Forward Land Forces Battlegroup with France framework nation (FLF BG-FRA FN) deployed in Romania conducted a series of demonstrative training sequences. These consisted of presentations on joint and multinational training, integration of Allied structures into NATO command and control systems, as well as live-fire demonstrations employing CAESAR artillery systems and capabilities designed to counter aerial threats and Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS).
During the battlefield circulation the delegation was informed about the contribution of the NATO FLF BG-FRA FN deployed in Romania, emphasizing its role in strengthening regional security, interoperability, and collective defence along NATO’s Eastern Flank. Their continued deterrence and defence efforts contribute directly to supporting the Corps’ role in reinforcing the Alliance’s strategic posture in the region.
