The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Commander of the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM), General Alexus G. Grynkewich, accompanied by the Romanian Chief of Defence, General Gheorghiță Vlad, visited Headquarters Multinational Corps South-East (HQ MNC-SE) on Tuesday, 20 January.
During their engagement, MNC-SE commander, Lieutenant General Cristian Dan, highlighted the contribution of Allied troops deployed in Romania and the Corps’ role in strengthening NATO’s posture on the Eastern Flank. The discussions also focused on enhancing interoperability, strengthening transatlantic cohesion, and Alliance’s forward presence along the Eastern Flank.
In the current security environment, senior military leaders emphasized the importance of cohesion, readiness, and collective defence.
In this context, “We had a chance to speak with the Multinational Corps South-East commander and the commanders of two of NATO’s Forward Land Forces, the battle group forward deployed here in Romania, led by France, and the one in Bulgaria, led by Italy. These forces strengthen our posture on the Eastern Flank, and I was impressed with their readiness and professionalism.”, General Grynkewich highlighted in his statement.
General Gheorghiță Vlad underlined that “The Headquarters Multinational Corps South-East represents a key element of NATO’s command and control structure and a concrete example of multinational cooperation. Through this headquarters, Romania contributes directly to the planning and conduct of collective defence, as well as to enhancing the Alliance’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively.”
Subsequently, the generals engaged with the soldiers of NATO Multinational Battle Group deployed in Romania, as part of their working visit at the Joint National Training Centre in Cincu.
